Mary Norman is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Yoga instructor specializing in the areas of anxiety and attachment issues. Mary has over 7 years of helping clients from a systemic approach of holistic wellness. Mary supports individuals, groups, and families on their healing journey through psychotherapy and somatic therapy approaches. In a counseling session with Mary, she goes beyond traditional talk therapy approaches to combine somatic techniques such as mindful movement with a trauma informed lens. She is passionate about providing individualized, holistic care to best serve her clients in navigating life’s challenges. She utilizes an integrative approach including elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness, and mind-body exercise. In her free time, Mary enjoys taking yoga classes, scuba diving, hiking, lounging at the beach/pool, art making, connecting to her inner elder swemo (IYKYK), and enjoying live music.
Yoga therapy and somatic therapy incorporate movement, body awareness, and meditation. This approach considers an individual’s mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Mary Norman incorporates a somatic approach to her therapy to the degree her clients feel comfortable to help clients feel empowered in their own bodies in order to live fulfilling lives.
Mindfulness is an act of radical self-compassion and presence with what is. Using this approach, Mary supports you in stepping out of judgment and into curiosity within the counseling space. Practicing mindfulness and breathwork regularly offers opportunity for self-awareness, improved focus, stress reduction, pain management, and emotion regulation.
Many of Mary’s clients have faced anxious thoughts and/or a depressed mood. Mary Norman offers support to clients with these challenges through verbal, skills-based, and somatic counseling techniques in Tallahassee and across the state of Florida.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, numbing, nightmares, or flashbacks? Have you survived stressful or frightening events you weren’t equipped to deal with? Are you a survivor of trauma? EMDR is a counseling modality for treating trauma or chronic stress that involves activating both sides of the brain and body to heal from the effects of traumatic memories. Mary Norman is trained in EMDR to provide effective trauma therapy and overall trauma recovery to clients. EMDR appointments can be scheduled in person or virtually in Tallahassee or across the state of Florida.
Are you ready to overcome negative self-talk? Are you tired of limiting beliefs holding you back?Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is the gold standard when it comes to mastering your mindset and becoming empowered to live a life aligned with what really matters to you. ACT can help you stop getting pushed around by your negative thoughts, free you from anxious thought spirals, learn healthy ways of relating to emotions and gain practical skills to overcome life struggles. Mary is trained to provide Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to clients in Tallahassee, Florida.
Imagine if your emotions felt more like an intuitive tug in the right direction and less like a tidal wave... Are you ready to understand your emotions better? Emotional Focused Therapy can help you feel like your emotions are there to help you instead of overpower you. As an EFT trained counselor, Mary Norman helps clients understand their own emotions and feel more in control in their life. The therapeutic process helps clients learn the skills to listen and understand their emotions better. Her unique approach provides EFT services to the Tallahassee Florida community.
